Ashegon Lake is a great
fly-fishing lake for trout. It's stocked by the Department of Natural
Resources with 3,000 to 5,000 trout a year. In the fall of 2000 the DNR
stocked 18,000 yearling brook trout! The LCO tribe stocks walleye
fingerlings, too.
While we encourage catch-and-release fishing for fun, the minimum size
for trout is 9" and the bag limit is three.
The Lake is home to rainbow, brook, brown, splake, and lake trout, bass,
musky, walleye, and pan fish.
Ashegon Lake is ideal for fly fishing from a boat or float tube. Local
flies and guides are available. Hatches include Callibaetis, Caddis, and
Midges. Fish sink tips with streamers for the big lake trout and
walleye, and poppers for pan fish and large mouth bass. Within a twenty
minute drive are many great rivers and streams including:
- Chippewa Flowage
- Chippewa River - for musky, small mouth bass
- Couderay River - for musky, northern pike, and brown trout.
- Day Lake
- Flambeau River
- Namakagon River - for trophy brown trout.
- Spider Lake
